SERGE TONNAR & LEGOTRIP FEAT. HME & LCE Choir

Thursday | 11.07.19 | 20 H

Serge Tonnar is one of the very few singer-songwriters in Luxembourg writing and singing in “Lëtzebuergesch”, the national language. Serge and his band Legotrip show, with great success, the importance of avoiding the uniformed sounds of the global pop culture by telling stories from here and now, in a language from here and now. With their latest album “Hämmelsmarsch” (the march of the sheeps, title of a popular song played by the fanfares on the local fairs), they come to shake the country with a macabre but joyous dance, ranging from march to cha cha cha to the Balkan sounds of the eastern Alzette valley.

J. KÜHN & R. ABOU-KHALIL & J. CAGWIN

Saturday | 13.07.19 | 19:30 H

“Journey to the Center of an Egg” - is the name of the trio project by Rabih Abou-Khalil, Joachim Kühn and Jarrod Cagwin as well as the 2004 released album, which is now after a break of more than 10 years, a new edition. With this metaphor, the Lebanese-born virtuoso on the Arabic lute Oud, Rabih Abou-Khalil, describes that fertile core from which he and his solo alter ego, the german pianist, Joachim Kühn, extract and combine the creative essences of their different sound cultures. The resulting music gives both soloists plenty of space for individual, melodic elaborations and exciting dialogues. The rhythmic accents of the american drummer and percussionist Jarrod Cagwin are certainly not only accessories. Cagwin, a permanent member of Abou-Khalil's diverse ensembles in recent years, gives structure and direction to the confluence of arabic sound exoticism and “western” jazz soloist. Thus, the trio Abou-Khalil/Kühn/Cagwin finds on its journey to a common intensive communication based on a new, own sound language.
